Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroe.

Born June 6, 1923 in Bennebroek, Netherlands, she was the daughter of the late Rutgerus F. and Wilhelmina (Need) Lommerse. After coming to the United States, Wouda married Jacob A. Vandermeer on August 20, 1949 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Monroe. Sadly, after forty-seven years of marriage, he preceded her in death on September 15, 1996. She spent most of her life caring for her husband and family as a homemaker, but also worked part-time as a seamstress at a local bridal shop. Wouda was an extremely active member of St. Mary Catholic Church for more than fifty years, participating in Comboni Ladies Auxiliary, Rosary Makers, Eucharistic Ministry and the Light of Resurrection Charismatic Prayer Group. She was a 4-H leader, teaching sewing and knitting for more than thirty years. Wouda enjoyed playing the guitar and working in her flower gardens at her home. She was known to many for her smile and having never said an unkind word about anyone or anything.

To cherish her memory, Wouda leaves six children: Gerard “Jerry” (Lori) Vandermeer of Monroe, Wilma Vandermeer of Germantown, Tennessee, Margaret (Michael) Iott of Fort Wayne, Indiana, James (Lisa) Vandermeer of Smyrna, Tennessee, Michael (Julie) Vandermeer of Manchester, Iowa and Annette (Dayton)) Latty of Monroe; two sisters, Elizabeth Okkerse of Columbus, Ohio and Wilma Kalamaja of Torrington, Wyoming; twelve grandchildren: Christine, Rachael, David, Andrea, Caitlyn, Erica, Jaclynn, Jacob, Craig, Anthony, Brandon and Emily; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers: John, Ted and Rudy Lommerse.

Memorial contributions in Wouda’s memory are suggested to the I.H.M. Sisters, Monroe.
