William H. Balk, 73, formerly of Lincoln Park and Monroe, passed away at 10:08 p.m. Thursday at Vibrant Life Assisted Living, Temperance.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Rupp Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Rupp Funeral Home. Rev. Philip Ching, pastor of St. Michael Church, will officiate. Private interment will take place at Our Lady of Hope Cemetery, Brownstown.

Bill was born May 13, 1943 in Monroe. He was the son of Antone and Emma (Masschelin) Balk.

He was a graduate of Monroe High School and a member of the Army National Guard.

Bill started his work career with Firestone Tire and later moved on to Michigan Public Schools from which he retired in 2005.

He was an avid sports fan following all of the Detroit teams with baseball being a lifelong passion. He followed the Detroit Tigers closely being able to recount endless stories and volumes of statistics. Always ready with a baseball story from his past or the Tigers teams from his youth. He also enjoyed bowling and playing cards especially poker or euchre.

Bill is survived by two sons, Michael (Susan) Balk of Temperance and Scott Balk; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by two wives, his parents and two sisters, Antoinette Charles and Johanna Navarre.
