Thomas Kirkland Taylor of St. Clair Shores died on December 23, 2017 of heart failure at St. John’s Hospital in Detroit. He was 92 years old. He is predeceased by his wife Anna M. Taylor who died in 2005.
Tom was born July 22, 1925 in Highland Park, Michigan, and grew up on Detroit’s west side. Tom attended St. Gregory the Great Church and school where he graduated in 1943. He joined the United States Airforce after graduation and served as a bombardier navigator in World War II. After the war he attended The University of Detroit and was hired in at General Motors as an electrical engineer. He began his career at the GM Building on West Grand Blvd. When GM built the Tech Center in Warren he and Ann bought their first home in 1955, on Brookdale in St. Clair Shores where they raised their family. They were one of the original families of St. Margaret’s Parish.
Tom is survived by his loving family: his children Dawn (Bruce) Kutney; Robin (Stephen) Kutney; Kirk (Machiko) Taylor; Kim (James) Varga; Laurie (Ronald) Allen; and Philip (Diane) Taylor. Also to cherish his memory are his grandchildren: William Kutney; Ellen Kutney Salgado; Katie Kutney (Adam); Rachael Kutney; Alexandra Hill (Jason); Andrew Taylor; Samantha (Jeffrey) Schmerheim; Lindsay (Kyle) Leadmon; Tommy Allen; Ryan, Hannah, Jenna, and Jack Taylor. Tom also has 1 great grandchild, Oliver Tomas Salgado; and 3 great-grandchildren due in the spring. Tom will be dearly missed by many friends and loved ones.
The Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 27 at Kaul Funeral Home, 28433 Jefferson Ave., St. Clair Shores, from 3:00 – 8:00 pm, and at 9:30 am December 28th at St. Margaret’s Church, 21201 E. 13 Mile Rd., St. Clair Shores. A memorial mass will follow at 10:00 am, with Fr. Ron DeHondt officiating.
