April 20, 1925 - November 20, 2017

Mr. Tindall retired after 34 years as a purchasing agent for General Motors and became a member of the Fisher Body Retirement Club. He spent his retirement summers at the family cottage in Caseville, MI and winters in Vero Beach, FL, golfing and enjoying the warm weather.

John served his country honorably in the army in WWII as a platoon guide on Okinawa, where he was wounded in June of 1945 and received the purple heart.

When he returned from the war he and his brother Bill ran the Allen Park Delicatessen, AKA Tindall's Beer Store, for 8 years. Loving husband of Elaine Meeks Tindall for 61 years.

In the winter, John enjoyed skiing at Boyne Mountain. He actually received lessons from Stein Eriksen, an alpine ski racer and Olympic gold medalist from Norway. He met his wife Elaine there and actually honeymooned there.

When they first met, they danced and he asked for her phone number. He never wrote it down and never forgot it. Diamond One 1929. While 1929 was the year of the stock market crash, it led to 61 years of wedded bliss.

Dear father of Ellen Martindell (Michael), Robert (Elia), James and Mary Ann. Grandfather of Steven Martindell (Melanie), Ana Ashton (Jonathan), Russell Tindall (Arianna) and Derek Martindell. Also 4 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Friday 2-8 p.m. with Rosary 7 p.m. at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Rd. (between Maple and Big Beaver), 248-362-2500.

The Funeral Mass will be on Saturday 10 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 280 E. Square Lake Rd. Troy, 48085. Visitation at church begins at 9:30 a.m.
