Born in Detroit, Michigan, Jack was the eldest son of William and Helen (Glennon) Connaughton. He was raised in Detroit and graduated on June 14, 1950 from the University of Detroit College of Commerce and Finance, earning his B.S. degree.

He enjoyed being with his wife; working outdoors; fixing things in the house; dancing; music,; spending time at the lake at his brother Bill’s and son Bill’s; being physically active; wintering in Las Vegas with his wife; and watching his children succeed.
